Civic Center Playfield

Client: City of Edmonds
Location: Edmonds, Washington
2021 - 2023

KBA provided construction management and inspection services for this $15 million development of Civic Center Playfield for the City of Edmonds. Project elements included sidewalk improvements along 6th Avenue, youth athletic fields, a tennis court, a multi-sports court, a plaza with terrace seat walls, a shade structure, six pétanque courts, two natural grass soccer fields, an improved skate park, a fully-inclusive playground area, concrete and asphalt pathways, a 1/3-mile perimeter walking path, a pollinator meadow, planting and irrigation, upgraded pedestrian and sports lighting, utility and stormwater improvements, picnic areas, public art, and a public restroom building. The project also involved heavy civil work to prepare the site for construction.

Tl' Awh Ah Dees (Formerly Squire's Landing) Park

Client: City of Kenmore
Location: Kenmore, Washington
2021 - 2023

KBA provided construction management and inspection for a six-acre redevelopment at Tl’ Awh Ah Dees Park in Kenmore. The project, part of the 65-acre park with 150 feet of shoreline on the Sammamish River and Swamp Creek, restored native habitats and added a public hand-powered watercraft facility, a community plaza, and a picnic shelter. It also included ADA-accessible pathways, parking, restrooms, a watercraft wash station, elevated boardwalks, nature paths, kayak storage, and artwork. The work featured two ADA-compliant steel pedestrian bridges—one 60 feet and the other 48 feet long—and restored vegetation on 4.5 acres.

Log Boom Park

Client: City of Kenmore
Location: Kenmore, Washington
2021

KBA inspected this project, one of the five projects approved in the City of Kenmore Walkways and Waterways voter-approved bond. This project comprised 1.5 acres of park improvements at the existing 3.9-acre Log Boom Park. It included a new ADA-accessible path network, picnic shelter, boat rental building, and improved hand-powered boat launch access ramp. This project also expanded on public access to beaches and shore access paths, as well as 1 acre of on-site wetland and riparian habitat restoration and protection.

Waterfront Redevelopment

Client: City of Edmonds
Location: Edmonds, Washington
2019 - 2020

KBA provided project inspection for the $4.2 million waterfront development at Edmonds Senior Center, which involved removing the existing bulkhead to restore shoreline habitat and enhance public access. The project included temporary environmental protection, demolition of the bulkhead and parking lot, and beach re-grading with new material. Additional work involved forming and pouring concrete for a re-aligned marine walkway supported by steel sheet piles, two new staircases, an accessible ramp, and re-grading the parking lot. Asphalt paving for the new parking lot, grading and drainage for bioretention planters, and concrete sidewalk installation adjacent to Railroad Avenue were also completed. Coordination with the project artist for the seawall cap, pavement, and site elements was integral to the
project.

Rhododendron Park Waterfront & Open Space Access

Client: City of Kenmore
Location: Kenmore, Washington
2017 - 2019

KBA provided office engineering, construction observation, and inspection services for this $1.2 million project, enhancing water access to the Sammamish River, improving the access drive next to 68th Avenue NE, and creating a drop-off area for a future boathouse. KBA facilitated contractor activities, communicated field updates to the City of Kenmore, compiled records for progress payments, and documented daily construction activities. The project included new asphalt trails, a boardwalk with pin piles, piers, ramps, floating docks, roadway paving, concrete curbs and sidewalks, barriers, signage, demolition, in-water structure removal, and landscaping restoration.

Burke-Gilman Trail Corridor Phase 1

Client: University of Washington
Location: Seattle, Washington
2017

KBA provided construction management and inspection for the Burke-Gilman Trail within the UW campus. The project widened the trail; added dedicated bicycle and pedestrian lanes; installed new lights and more blue emergency phones; improved trail intersections and ADA access; created mixing zones with amenities such as benches, trash cans, and bicycle parking; and improved sightlines. Grant funding came from the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) through the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) program.
